The American Gaming Association has announced that 2021 has seen US casinos break all records for most money won in a single year at $44.15bn. This figure surpasses the previous figure, set for 2019, of $43.65 bn, and does not yet include the December numbers.
Bricks-and-mortar gaming still drives the business in the US, with October’s activity generating $3.97bn, an increase of 16% on October 2019’s pre-pandemic total. Americans wagered a record $7.05bn on sports in October, unsurprisingly a record as more jurisdictions come online, bringing the year-to-date total amount bet to $42.19bn.
Online gambling generated $357m in October revenue, up 129% from October 2020, again largely to be expected as more States open up to online gaming and sports betting. The US industry has now passed $4bn in monthly gambling revenue for eight consecutive months, never having sone so in a single month prior to 2021.
