The US state of Louisiana’s first land-based casino, The Queen Baton Rouge, will open its doors on August 24th.

Previously known as the Hollywood Casino Baton Rouge, the venue has undergone huge expansion and renovations, costing a total of $85m.

Terry Downey, President & CEO of the casino’s parent company, Queen Casino & Entertainment, says: “We are thrilled to debut what will be an unmatched gaming and entertainment destination in Louisiana for sports wagering, gaming, entertainment and dining.”

The property has expanded from its original size of 62,000sqft to over 100,000sqft, with a casino atrium of 33,000sqft. Viking River Cruises is purchasing the riverboat that previously housed the gaming area and will provide transportation to and from the centre of Baton Rouge for casino guests.

A further highlight is the DraftKings sportsbook, providing sports betting from 20 kiosks and four betting windows.
