The Belgian government has decided to ban gambling advertising across multiple media platforms, effective from July 1st this year.
All gambling advertising will be banned from television, radio, cinemas, newspapers and magazines, and in all public spaces. Online advertising on websites and social media channels will also be prohibited.
This move is aimed at reducing the country’s levels of addiction and personal debt, and will be further strengthened from January 1st, 2025, with a further ban on advertising in sports stadiums, with January 1st, 2028 being the date from which gambling companies will no longer be able to provide sponsorship to professional sports teams and clubs.
