David Orrick, Director of Industry Relations at Merkur Gaming, has been recognised for almost three decades of service to the international gaming industry at the European Casino Awards, with the much-deserved Jimmy Thomas Outstanding Achievement Award.

As changes of direction go, David’s, entry into the industry as Editor of Euroslot, having previously been an elite level co-driver in rallying, was impressive. And in his former career, one of his bosses was none other than the legendary Jean Todt, so David has been keeping the very best company for many a year!

Following his editorial stint, David has worked for the cream of global gaming companies, and for the past seven years has served as Director of Industry Relations at Merkur Gaming, the development and sales brand of the Gauselmann Group.

Athanasios ‘Sakis’ Isaakidis, Chief Executive International at Merkur Gaming, spoke for everyone who has ever worked alongside David when he said: “David is an industry professional who knows and understands the world of gaming and its protagonists like no other. His expertise, professionalism and commitment are highly respected both within and beyond Merkur Gaming by industry and media representatives around the world.

“We are thrilled for him to have received this special award; it is an important acknowledgement of his contribution to the industry – which in David’s case has always been more of a passion than work.”

The Outstanding Achievement Award bears the name of one of the true legends of the British gaming industry, Jimmy Thomas, who sadly passed away last year. At the awards ceremony, held in the Grand Connaught Rooms in London during ICE, David was presented with his award by Jimmy’s son, Simon Thomas, Chairman & CEO at the iconic Hippodrome Casino which he and his father so brilliantly created and established.

In typically erudite style, David commented: “This award means a lot to me. Any recognition from within the industry in which one is privileged to work is a great honour and particularly so in this case as it reflects on long service throughout the companies that I have worked with during my time in the industry.”

The European Casino Awards are organised and hosted by Datateam Business Media, publishers of Casino International magazine.
