Indian fantasy esports gaming start-up, FanClash, has raised US$40m in fresh Series B funding, and is targeting significant global expansion. The total amount raised by the company since its 2020 formation is now to $50.5m.

The FanClash game allows users to create fantasy teams made up of esports athletes across multiple disciplines, with the objective of winning prizes for successful ‘fandom’. The platform went live in India last year and launched in the Philippines this past May. The next target markets are stated as being Vietnam and the US.

Rishabh Bhansali, co-founder of FanClash, says: “Esports fans around the world spend about 8-10 hours a week watching tournaments and gameplay, yet there are not enough avenues for players and viewers to monetise their knowledge in any way. Our customers love FanClash not only because it gives them the opportunity to compete in fantasy games, but also for making them financially independent and hence taken seriously as esports fans.”

In India, Fantasy sports applications are very popular India, and FanClash investors are clearly buying into the idea that the same appeal will extend to esports.
