eSports player is 33/1 to be nominated for next SPOTY

In the UK, rising tennis star Emma Raducanu has officially been crowned the BBC Sports Personality of the Year for 2021, but could next year see a gamer take home this most prestigious of titles?

With interest in gaming and eSports dramatically rising, the odds are out on a gamer being 2022’s Sports Personality of the Year winner are currently 33/1. Not only that, but the revived television series GamesMaster is 6/1 to win a coveted BAFTA. 

According to the 2021 eSports Earning Report from Online Betting Guide (OLBG.com), the 10 highest earning gamers each earns over £3m ($4m) annually, with the highest paid gamer, Johan ‘N0tail’ Sundstein, having earned a whopping £5,297,759 ($7,075.144) from tournament earnings alone. These rising stars may not have mainstream silverware on the shelf, but they certainly have gold in the bank!
