A 2021 end of year report from the European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) and H2 Gambling Capital claims that online gambling revenue in Europe is expected to grow by 19% in 2022, to US$99.5bn gross gaming revenue (GGR).
Having been accelerated by the Covid-19 pandemic, the rapid recent growth of the European online gambling market is expected to continue, rising from 26% of total GGR in 2019 to 41% by 2026. Unsurprisingly, the report highlights a rapid increase in mobile gaming usage.
Maarten Haijer, Secretary General of the EGBA, also pointed to the significant scope for online development in France, Germany, Italy and Spain, where the online share of the total gambling market is still relatively small despite the online markets in these countries being relatively mature.
