Famous the world over for their unique white shirt with the thick, red, vertical stripe (and also for the late and very great Johan Cruyff), the iconic football club, Ajax Amsterdam, has signed a multi-year sponsorship deal with online gambling company, Unibet, recently licenced to offer betting and gambling in the Netherlands.
In addition to the commercial benefits, Ajax and Unibet have confirmed that they aim to work together on social projects, in the fields of mental health, responsible gambling and the prevention of match fixing.
Part of the Kindred Group, Unibet is one of the world’s biggest online gambling companies and one of 19 companies so far licenced to operate in the Netherlands so far. And despite a number of political concerns, most football teams in the Dutch Eredivisie now have some form of sponsorship partnership with a betting and gaming company.
The Unibet deal with Ajax is said to be worth up to €3m to the football club.
