State regulators have unanimously approved a plan for construction of the new Golden Nugget Danville Casino in Danville, Illinois.

The planned 41,500sqft gaming floor is expected to have 500 slot machines, 14 table games, two restaurants and a sportsbook facility. Back in 2019, a new law approved the operation of six new casinos in the state, and Danville, a town of 30,000 people to the west of the border with Indiana, is the latest location to be granted permission by the Illinois Gaming Board.

With proposals already having been approved in Rockford, Waukegan, Williamson County and at a site on the border of Homewood and East Hazel Crest, Danville becomes the fifth of this six. And according to the Chicago Sun-Times, Mayor Lori Lightfoot is currently considering proposals for a casino within the city itself.
