Japanese video game giant Konami has announced a new fan-focused esports competition featuring seven leading Italian Serie A football clubs, entitled Coppa eFootball Italia.

This new event will integrate Konami eFootball’s partner clubs, their youth players, professional esports players and the fans of each club.

The seven iconic clubs taking part in Coppa eFootball Italia are Atalanta, Lazio, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Monza, Napoli and Roma.

Each club will be represented by three players, one from their youth team, one esports professional and one fan. The fan players will be selected via a special qualification tournament, ‘Konamici’, commencing in February 2023.

The various stages of Coppa eFootball Italia itself will take place between December 2022 and April 2023, with Grand Finals held over the final weekend of April, at Napoli Comicon.

Konami’s football simulation PES was rebranded to eFootball in 2021, becoming free to play across all gaming platforms. This was followed by a series of deals with professional football clubs, including Arsenal in England and Bayern Munich in Germany.
