One of the side effects of the Covid-19 pandemic in Spain was the decision to ban all LaLiga football clubs from carrying betting firm branding on their shirts. And the fall-out from this ban is that more than 20 clubs across the top two leagues are currently without a main shirt sponsor for the coming 2022-23 season.

The clubs can see out their current sponsorship agreements until the end of this current season, when the new regulation will come into effect but, according to the Spanish media, many clubs will suffer greatly from this loss of a major contributor to their annual incomes.

With the search for new sponsors already underway, Real Madrid will continue to be sponsored by Emirates, Barcelona by Spotify, Atletico Madrid by Plus500 and both Valencia and Real Sociedad by online car retailer, Cazoo. With the raid growth in popularity of cryptocurrencies, it is thought likely that next season might see some of these currencies and platforms might make their LaLiga debuts.
