The Lithuanian Department of Gambling Supervision has fined Unigames and Betsson for violating the country’s ban on gambling promotion, which became law in 2021.
The regulator confirmed that it began investigating Uniclub (Unigames) and Betsafe (Betsson) in October last year and found issues on the websites of both. The Betsafe site contained messages aimed at drawing attention to the company, but also made persuasive and encouraging offers to participate in games. In the case of Uniclub, the regulator stated that the operator told players that they could choose from 1,000+ casino games.
These statements violated Lithuania’s ban on promoting gambling, and Unigames was fined €12,662, with Betsson received a fine of €25,000. Both companies were given until June 20th to remove the offending messages and warned about the possible suspension of their licences.
