The Missouri Gaming Commission (MGC) has announced that applications for sports betting licenses are now being taken, as of May 15th.

This significant update is part of Missouri’s ongoing process to legalise sportsbook operations, with a pivotal deadline set for December 1st this year.

The regulatory framework, which will come into effect on August 30th, allows a window from mid-May to late August for application reviews.

A statement from the MGC says: “The Commission intends to work with our stakeholders to make license applications available from May 15th, so that interested parties can start the process of gathering the necessary documents to complete their applications.”

Missouri is set to issue 19 retail and 21 online sports betting licenses, with provisions allowing each of the state’s six major league sports teams to apply for one of each.

The path to this point has been challenging, marked by delays earlier this year due to Denny Hoskins, Secretary of State, blocking the rollout process. However, the tide turned in November when voters approved legal sports betting, a decision that rightly rippled through the US gaming industry.

This development positions Missouri as the 39th US state to legalise sports betting.
