Gross gaming revenue in Macau grew by 24.8% month-on-month in May, to US$414m. This performance uplift was clearly boosted by the easing of border restrictions with mainland China.

However, according to data released by the Gaming Inspection & Coordination Bureau, May’s GGR was lower than the March figure of US$454m. For the first five months of 2022, the combined GGR is down 44% to US$2.95bn.

Regional industry media leader, Inside Asian Gaming, reported stronger than expected visitor numbers for the first week of May, with April 30th seeing the year’s highest single day of arrivals at 41,544, following the staged relaxation of Covid-19 restrictions during the last weeks of April.
