The sports and betting hungry players of New York placed an incredible and record-breaking $603m in bets over the opening nine days following launch of mobile sports betting, according to figures released by the State Gaming Commission.

These wagers on NFL football, basketball, ice hockey and other sports generated $48.2m in GGR across the period January 8th to 16th.

Over the course of just two weekends and nine days, New York overtook the previous most successful launch, averaging $67m in daily wagers and smashing New Jersey’s $42m right out of the park. The success of this launch also means that with New York operators paying a hefty 51% in tax on their revenues, mobile sports betting has already generated $24.6m for State funds.

According to reports, Caesar’s Sportsbook headed the field with $257.7m in bets, FanDuel players posted $200.4m, DraftKings reported $134.4m and BetRivers, $10.6m.

“So far, so good,” said State Senator Joe Addabbo Jr, Chair of the Racing, Gaming & Wagering Committee. “These are great numbers. It’s a solid start and we have the NFL Playoffs and Super Bowl coming up.”

And Mike Mazzeo, Analyst at PlayNY.com described New York as “playing in a league of its own.”
