Following six consecutive years of double-digit growth, the Q4 of 2021 saw a 9% fall in online betting revenues at Entain, although activity in its 4,000+ UK and European betting shops bounced back by 60% following the easing of Covid-19 restrictions.

In 2021, the company, was the subject of two takeover approaches, firstly from DraftKings and then more recently from MGM. Neither came to fruition, although both were understandable as online betting revenues grew rapidly during the coronavirus lockdowns and other restrictive controls.

In additions, US interest in acquiring British sports betting expertise remains high as regulations across the States continue to relax. Unsurprisingly, this new environment is seeing BetMGM, Entain’s US online sportsbook joint venture with MGM, continuing to gain market share.
