The betting and gaming industry in the Canadian province of Ontario enjoyed another bumper period in Q3 of the 2023/24 fiscal year, generating a huge CA$658m (US$488m), an increase of 22% over Q2.

National news agency The Canadian Press reports 49 operators and 72 gaming websites doing business in the province during the period (Oct-Dec), with total Q3 wagers up 21% to CA$17.2bn (US$12.7bn).

The report adds that around 1.2m player accounts were active, up by 250,000 on Q2. Casino games, includes iGaming, slots, live and computer-based table games and bingo, accounted for 79% of total wagers and 71% of actual gaming revenue. Sports and esports betting and other proposition, exchange and novelty bets, accounted for 18% of wagers and 25% of revenue.

For an industry that only fully opened up 22 months ago to now be generating just shy of U$500m a quarter is nothing if not remarkable.
