According to US data analysts, the state of Pennsylvania enjoyed a record-breaking January in terms of both sports wagering and online gaming.
January is play-off time in the NFL, with five weekends of huge fixtures, and according to the reported data, sportsbooks generated a monthly total of $793.7m in wagers, up 29% from January 2021. The GGR from this $793.7m was $53.4m, up 8.3% year-on-year and up 17.9% on the previous month (December: $45.3m). Operators ended the month with $32.2m in taxable revenue, producing $11.6m in state taxes and local share assessments.
Online casinos and poker rooms also enjoyed a strong month, setting a GGR record of $130m, improving year-on-year revenue by 42.5% and delivering $44.6m in state taxes and local assessments.
