Play971 has launched football betting for customers in the United Arab Emirates, marking another step in the country’s emerging regulated online gaming market.

The platform, operated by Coin Technology Projects LLC, is licensed by the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority and was previously reported as the UAE’s first licensed sports wagering and iGaming website.

Play971 launched its iGaming offer in November before expanding into football betting. The new sportsbook product gives eligible UAE-based customers access to international football markets through the Play971.ae website. Betting is available to international residents aged 21 and over, while the platform also offers markets on regional sports including local football and horse racing.

Play971’s football betting launch adds to its existing casino-style games and live dealer products. The site includes live tables streamed from an Abu Dhabi studio licensed by the GCGRA. The operator is part of the wider Momentum Group in Abu Dhabi, which is also behind The UAE Lottery.

Philippa Bowland, Play971’s Commercial Director for iGaming, says: “For the first time, a locally-rooted platform like Play971 adds a new layer to the sports experience, making it possible for fans to play sustainably, rally behind their teams and enjoy major football moments together.”

The company says that further features are planned, including match and player markets, tournament-themed games and fan-focused promotions.

The launch comes as gaming activity in the UAE continues to develop across both online and land-based channels. Play971’s expansion into football betting is significant because it moves the country’s regulated online gaming market beyond casino-style content into a major global sports vertical. The rollout will be closely watched by operators, suppliers and regulators assessing how the Emirates’ commercial gaming model develops.
