Russia says it will stage ‘esports Games of the Future’ in 2023

The Russian Deputy Prime Minister, Dmitry Chernyshenko, has announced that in 2023, the country will host a multi-discipline event called ‘esports Games of the Future’ comprising as many as 15 high-tech disciplines such as esports, drone racing and virtual reality. Mr. Chernyshenko, who was Chief Executive of the 2014 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in Sochi, told the official State news agency TASS that the Government was working towards announcing the venue for the event at the SportAccord World Sport and Business Summit, to be held in Yekaterinburg next May. He said that “the selection will be conducted on a competitive basis, we will sum up the results in May next year, adding that he thinks the event will “stimulate the development of science and the best digital achievements,” and will also be “a great addition to our traditional leadership in traditional sports.”
