Iconic retailer Saks Fifth Avenue as unveiled plans for a casino at its flagship store on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue.

The New York Post reported that Saks’ parent company Hudson’s Bay Company hopes to convert the department store’s top three floors into a glamorous, James Bond inspired gaming venue.

Richard Baker, Executive Chairman & Chief Executive of Hudson’s Bay, said: “In Monte Carlo they have fancy casinos so why not in Manhattan,” Baker said. “Why should Manhattan have another slobby casino? We need spectacular.”

Hudson’s Bay is a retail and real estate group, not a casino operator, and it will be interesting to learn who the company selects as its operating partner. Obvious candidates such as Las Vegas Sands or Wynn Resorts are already seemingly committed to other New York proposals.
