According to Swedish media reports, the Government will end its temporary restrictions on online casinos, applied since July 2020, on November 14th. For the past 16 months, operators have had to impose a mandatory SEK5,000 (€480) weekly deposit limit on player accounts and limit bonus incentives to SEK100 (€10). The Swedish Government lifted most of its COVID-19 public restrictions at the end of September, so this welcome move comes a little later than had been expected. But Swedish operators are also preparing for huge market changes as the Government reviews the Spelmarknadsutredningen (Gambling Market Inquiry) submission. This proposes that Sweden imposes moderation controls on gambling advertising and introduces a licensing regime for software and games developers.
