The report, which analysed public engagement throughout the year, highlights how key regulatory moves, such as the formation of the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority (GCGRA), the issuance of the first legal gambling licenses and the introduction of gambling options, have significantly shaped the public’s interest in gambling-related topics.
In September 2023, the UAE established the GCGRA, signalling the country’s intent to regulate and potentially legalise various forms of gambling. Since that pivotal announcement, public curiosity has surged, with online searches for gambling-related terms growing by 54.38%.
Further announcements, including the suspension of prize draws in January 2024 and MGM Resorts expressing interest in UAE casinos in March 2024, sparked yet more public curiosity. Search data shows that each significant update led to a 12.54% average rise in interest, driving further engagement in the evolving gambling landscape.
While online gambling remains a significant focus, the report notes growing interest in physical casino locations. Searches for terms like ‘Casino in Dubai’ and ‘Ras Al Khaimah Casino’ have steadily increased, reflecting rising speculation about where brick-and-mortar casinos might be established as the regulatory framework continues to develop.
The report concludes that as the UAE continues to issue more licenses and expand its regulatory framework, public interest in gambling will likely increase further. The steady rise in both online and physical casino searches indicates that the country is on track to become a significant player in the global gambling market.
With growing engagement around key developments, the UAE’s evolving gambling industry is expected to shape local and international interest, positioning the region as a potential hub for future investments and casino projects.
