Genting Singapore has expressed confidence in securing a renewed gaming licence for Resorts World Sentosa ahead of its next regulatory assessment, while highlighting potential risks to tourism from geopolitical tensions.

The operator says it is “well-positioned” for the upcoming licence review by the Gambling Regulatory Authority, following a provisional two-year renewal granted in 2024. The shortened term reflected concerns over performance between 2021 and 2023, particularly around the resort’s ability to maintain its appeal as a tourism destination.

In response, Genting has accelerated its $5.3bn RWS 2.0 redevelopment programme, aimed at enhancing non-gaming attractions and extending visitor stays. Recent additions include new hospitality, retail and entertainment offerings, forming part of a broader repositioning strategy aligned with national tourism objectives.

The company’s outlook is supported by continued recovery in inbound travel to Singapore, although it noted that global economic uncertainty and geopolitical developments, including tensions in the Middle East, could impact future visitation trends.

Genting reported a mixed financial performance for 2025, with group revenue declining 3% year-on-year to $1.93bn and adjusted EBITDA down 17%, reflecting development costs and a lower casino win rate. Gaming revenue fell 6%, while non-gaming revenue increased modestly.

The licence renewal process, scheduled for February 2027, will be a key milestone for the operator as it seeks to demonstrate the long-term competitiveness of its integrated resort offering within Singapore’s tightly regulated gaming market.
