Having taken a full year to issue its first three online gaming licences, the German regulator has announced that a further nine more operators will soon be in a position to go live.
The Sachsen-Anhalt State Administration Office has reported that since the government approved online gambling in 2021, a total of 71 operators had submitted licence applications, with just 12 being approved to offer online slots only. The additional nine are yet to be publicly named.
The report also revealed that since the new gaming regulations came into law, 25 operators have been referred to the public prosecutor’s offices for violations, and 148 cases of illegal gambling have been reviewed, with four prohibition orders issued.
As of January 1st, 2023, a new regulatory authority, the Glucksspielbehorde (GGL), will be responsible for enforcing the country’s revised gaming laws.
