According to Indian media reports citing official sources, India has blocked around 300 illegal betting and gambling websites and mobile applications in its latest enforcement sweep, with the latest removals covering sports betting platforms, online casinos, betting exchanges, Satta/Matka networks and real-money card and casino apps.

The reports said the cumulative number of blocked platforms has now reached roughly 8,400, including about 4,900 taken down after the passage of the Promotion & Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025.

The move comes days after the Indian government said the 2025 law comprehensively prohibits all forms of “online money games”, whether based on skill, chance or a combination of both, and gives authorities power to block unlawful platforms under the Information Technology Act.

In a written reply tabled in the Lok Sabha on March 18th, the government also said the law bars advertising, promotion and facilitation of prohibited games, as well as related payment processing, and introduces penalties including imprisonment and fines for operators and advertisers.

In March last year, the Directorate General of GST Intelligence said it had blocked 357 websites or URLs linked to illegal or non-compliant offshore online money gaming entities, in coordination with the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, as part of a wider tax-enforcement push targeting hundreds of offshore operators.
