Las Vegas is emerging as a World Cup viewing destination despite not hosting a match, as international football fans add the city to their US travel plans during the tournament.
Derek Stevens, owner of Circa Resort & Casino, says the World Cup has delivered a stronger than expected boost to visitation, with fans from Europe and other international markets filling sportsbooks, casinos and viewing areas for matches played in other US cities.
Las Vegas was not selected as one of the host cities for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is being staged across the US, Canada and Mexico. However, the city’s casino resorts, sportsbooks, large-format screens and entertainment venues have made it a natural gathering point for fans travelling around the country. At Circa, matches have drawn large crowds at the resort’s sportsbook and Stadium Swim venue.
Stevens said Mexico and US matches had sold out, with strong demand also for games involving Brazil, England, Argentina and Spain: “We were very excited about the World Cup, but we really underestimated how great this is,” he said, adding that the tournament has provided a significant lift during what is usually a slower period for Las Vegas.
“This is going to create such a massive difference in our Q2 and Q3 numbers. It is a pretty slow time in Vegas, but this has been a tremendous boost.”
The tournament has also highlighted Las Vegas’s appeal to international visitors who want to combine football viewing with casino gaming and wider entertainment.
The World Cup is expected to become one of the largest betting events in history, with operators reporting record engagement across legal sports betting markets. Las Vegas, with its concentration of sportsbooks and casino resorts, is benefiting from this activity even without matchday hosting rights.
For Nevada operators, the tournament is creating a wider tourism opportunity around football, viewing parties, hospitality and sports betting. It also reinforces Las Vegas’s position as a global sports and entertainment centre, even when major events are taking place elsewhere.
