The Malawi Gaming & Lotteries Authority (MAGLA) has signed a K40m (US$23,000) sponsorship agreement with the Super League of Malawi (SULOM) to support a new monthly football awards programme. MAGLA will sponsor the Goal and Save of the Month Awards during the 2026 FDH Bank Premiership season.
The partnership was unveiled at a signing ceremony in Blantyre on May 25th.
Players in Malawi’s top league will be recognised each month for outstanding goals and exceptional saves. The awards are intended to create additional performance incentives for players while increasing fan engagement throughout the season.
MAGLA say that the initiative forms part of its wider support for football development and community activity in Malawi. SULOM says that the sponsorship will help raise competitive standards in the domestic game and provide greater recognition for individual player performances.
This agreement highlights the regulator’s expanding role in social investment, following its recent K7.8m ($4,500) donation to the Mzuzu Viphya Lions Club in support of a free medical screening campaign.
Hambling regulators across African markets are increasingly seeking to demonstrate a broader public role beyond licensing and enforcement. For Malawi, the agreement links the authority with one of the country’s most visible sports competitions while supporting player recognition and community engagement.
