Scheduled to open in autumn 2030 on Yumeshima island in Osaka Bay, Japan’s first integrated resort casino in Osaka will be managed by MGM Osaka, a joint venture of MGM Resorts International and Orix Corporation.
The resort will occupy approximately 49 hectares, located near the site of the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo. Construction began in April 2025, following approval by Osaka’s prefectural and city governments. An architectural document, prepared by MGM Osaka before construction, outlines a main facility named MGM Osaka, which will include two hotels totalling about 1,840 rooms, a casino and a theatre.
The 27-storey building will have one basement level. Its guest accommodations will form an arc, reminiscent of the Bellagio in Las Vegas. The casino will span 23,293sqm and feature around 470 table games and approximately 6,400 slots and electronic gaming machines.
Additional facilities include a 16.7-hectare complex for international conferences and exhibitions, which will house another hotel with 660 rooms. This section will consist of four storeys, offering two halls and various meeting rooms, alongside a large parking area.
A further resort hotel within this complex will have 13 above-ground floors and one basement level and will include studios for cultural activities.
Despite the promising development, concerns about increased gambling addiction persist. Both the prefectural and city governments aim to implement measures to address these concerns by fiscal 2026.
The resort’s development marks a significant step in Japan’s burgeoning casino industry, promising economic growth while also necessitating responsible gambling measures.
