Argentina collected ARS106.6bn (US$70.5m) through its online betting and gaming tax during the first eight months of 2026, according to figures attributed to the country’s Revenue and Customs Control Agency.

Receipts totalled ARS16.98bn (US$11.2m) in August, compared with ARS17.8bn (US$11.8m) in July. The month-on-month decline was approximately 4.6%.

The figures represent tax collected on funds deposited into online betting and gaming accounts. They do not measure operator revenue, gross gaming revenue or the total value of wagers placed in Argentina.

Argentina’s indirect online betting tax was established under Law 27.346 and applies to bets and games of chance conducted through digital platforms across the country, irrespective of where the supporting server is located.

The tax is legally charged to the player and generally collected by operators or payment intermediaries when funds are deposited. Rates range from 2.5% to 15%, depending on factors including the operator’s registration, location and compliance with domestic investment and employment requirements.

Registered domestic operators are generally subject to a 5% rate. Qualifying businesses meeting local investment and employment conditions can receive a reduced 2.5% rate, while higher rates apply to unregistered and overseas platforms.

The federal framework operates alongside Argentina’s provincial gambling regimes, under which individual jurisdictions license and regulate online betting and gaming activity.

ARCA updated the collection system in 2025 to clarify when applicable rates take effect and strengthen its register of authorised operators. The agency’s rules require operators and payment intermediaries to report and transfer collected amounts through the federal tax system.
