House Bill 4826, an amendment to the state’s existing legal sports betting legislation, has been passed by West Virginia legislators, allowing licensed sports betting operators to accept wagers on esports events.
The amendment defines esports as “electronic sports or competitive video game played as a game of skill for spectators,” meaning that licensed operators are free to post and accept bets on esports without additional restrictions.
House Bill 4826 was introduced in February and signed into law this month and will take several more months to actually come into effect.
