One year on from formal legalisation, the Canadian province of Ontario is now home to 40 iGaming operators and 76 websites/apps, with Ontario Lottery & Gaming Vice President, Andrew Darley, suggesting that this new market might even be “No.1 in the World” right now.

During this first year, the Ontarian iGaming sector accumulated an active base of more than 1.6m player accounts, processed a stunning $35.6bn in wagers, earning almost $1.4bn in total gaming income.

The most popular sport for Ontarian sports bettors is basketball, followed by football (soccer), football (NFL), ice hockey and baseball. Online casino players enjoy slots, followed by live dealer games and then digital table games.

With players across all disciplines averaging $70 per month in spend, this nascent iGaming territory has got off to a more than healthy start.
