Should they be successful in securing one of three new ‘downstate’ casino licences, Resorts World New York City will embark upon its ‘Next Chapter’, that the company claims will be a transformational project for the city and a huge tax revenue earner for the state.

Subject to approval from the New York State Gaming Commission, the $5 billion plan would transform the 130-year-old Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens, and its adjacent existing Resort World facility, into a world-leading leisure, entertainment and gaming destination in Ozone Park, close to JFK International Airport.

It is claimed that the new facility will create up to 4,000 jobs and generate hundreds of million in tax dollars, on top of the initial $500m flat licensing fee.

In terms of promoting localised economic and social benefits, RWNYC has also partnered with local consulting firms to support minority and women-owned businesses.

The plan includes adding two million square feet of entertainment, gaming, retail, dining and convention space to the existing one-million-square-foot facility, plus 1,600 new hotel rooms, a dance club and a health spa. The proposed gaming floor, at 350,000sqft, would be one of the largest in the world.
