South Korean casinos see 14.6% GGR increase

South Korea’s casino industry reported a collective GGR of KRW3.70tn (US$2.52bn) in 2025, marking a 14.6% increase from 2024. This growth also represents a 26.1% rise compared to KRW2.93tn in 2019, the last full year before the COVID-19 pandemic.

The data, released by the Ministry of Culture, Sports & Tourism, includes revenue from the country’s 18 casinos, comprising both foreigner-only venues and Kangwon Land, the sole casino open to locals.

It is important to note that these figures are net of bad debt, complimentary allowances and commissions, possibly differing from numbers reported by publicly listed operators.

Visitor numbers to South Korean casinos increased by 12.3% in 2025, reaching over 5.97m, up from under 5.32m in 2024. This is nearly 97.5% of the 6.13m visits recorded in 2019. Foreigner-only casinos generated KRW2.26tn in 2025, a 21.6% increase from the previous year. Visits to these venues rose 18.7%, totaling 3.49m.

Kangwon Land recorded gaming revenue of KRW1.43tn in 2025, a 4.9% increase from 2024. On Jeju Island, eight foreigner-only casinos generated KRW646.58bn in 2025, up 40.9% from a year earlier. Visitor volume to Jeju increased by 37.8%.

Jeju Dream Tower, operated by Lotte Tour Development Co Ltd, accounted for 80.5% of Jeju’s 2025 gaming revenue, with KRW520.65bn, a 62.5% increase. According to Lotte Tour, casino sales surged as visitor numbers grew by 54.1%.

The Inspire Entertainment Resort in Incheon, newly opened in February 2024, reported gaming revenue of KRW286.01bn, compared to KRW173.32bn in 2024. However, direct year-on-year comparisons are limited due to their recent opening.
